KEY FUNCTIONS OF THE FINANCIAL INTELLIGENCE UNIT (F.I.U)

The Financial Intelligence Unit is established by the Minister responsible for Finance as an agency responsible for requesting, receiving, analysing and dissemination of suspicious transaction reports and other information relating to money laundering, terrorist financing or proceeds of crime.

1.  The Financial Intelligence Unit compiles reports for competent and law enforcement authorities
     if there are reasonable grounds to suspect that transactions involve money laundering, proceeds
     of crime or terrorist financing.

1.  Extends legal assistance to foreign jurisdictions with respect to production orders, property
     tracking, monitoring, and forfeiture or confiscation orders.

1.  Requests and receives information from any reporting entity, any supervisory agency and any
    law enforcement agency, any other competent authority in Guyana or elsewhere for purposes of
    this act.

1.  May enter into any agreements or arrangements with any international or domestic government
     institution or agency regarding the exchange of information.
